THE WINTER ROSE by MELANIE DOBSON
THE WINTER ROSE by MELANIE DOBSON is a novel that takes place in two time zones, namely 1943 and 2003, held together by Charlie Tonquin’s story, which, at first, he refuses to divulge. Elias, who becomes Charlie when he gets to the Statea, Marguerite and Louis are three of the children who cross the Pyrenees into Spain from Vichy France with the intrepid Quaker, Grace Tonquin. It is Grace and her friend Roland’s aim to rescue as many Jewish children from the Nazis as they can. I like to see how Grace holds onto the promises of God, particularly those in psalm 27, to give her strength to carry on, like a winter rose that blooms even in the snow.
Moving on to 2003, we find Addie Hault at Tonquin Lake looking for Charlie’s relatives in order to find someone to supply him with bone marrow. She finds the willow tree which has become a symbol of perseverence to Charlie, with its ability to bend and not break under pressure. Charlie, or Papa C as Addie calls him, is the only father figure Addie has ever known. Due to her troubled upbringing, she ends up at Sale Creek Home for Girls where Charlie and his wife Emma become her family. I like the way Charlie teaches Addie to throw stones into the river in order to be free from the past.

UNLIKELY FIGHTER by GREG STIER
The author tells the story of the radical salvation of each of his uncles and how they really fought to get people saved.
After three near death experiences and the knowledge that he was nearly aborted, he comes to salvation himself.
When he hears the truth about his father he makes it his business to see his mother let go of her guilt and come to Christ.
This is a really good read and one I highly recommend for the easy way it is written and the strength of the Christian message. It is a story of hope and encouragement, showing us that there is no one too bad to receive the Lord's touch and making it very clear that we are saved by grace and not works.

FLOWERS FROM AFGHANISTAN by SUZY PARISH
FLOWERS FROM AFGHANISTAN by SUZY PARISH is the poignant story of a marriage that is taking strain from grief at the loss of a child, and a father's guilt at having caused the accident that killed him.
Mac McCann literally runs away to a year's deployment as a police trainer in Afghanistan, hoping his secret never comes out. Unlike his wife Sophie, who finds solace in her Christian faith, he has no interest in a God who let his son die.
I like to see how this separation causes them both to grow. I also like to see the camaraderie between the members of Mac's team and how, as he listens to their stories, and becomes friendly with Gul the barber and his son Bashir, he becomes more understanding of the problems of others.
I like to see Sophie branching out with her own baking business and her prayer support for Mac and his friends.
It is altogether a lovely read and one I highly recommend. The characters are very real and there is a strong Christian message underlying the story.

THE MISTLETOE COUNTESS by PEPPER BASHAM
THE MISTLETOE COUNTESS by PEPPER BASHAM is a delightful romantic, historical, suspense novel with wonderful characters, some "laugh out loud" moments and a deep Christian message underlying the story.
Grace and Lillias Ferguson are very different. Grace is intelligent, genuine and selfless. She is full of joy and innocent, an avid reader of fiction, an amateur sleuth, and says of herself "at times my feelings are so large they must burst out into words". She is prepared to give up her dreams to help her family by marrying Frederick Percy, Earl of Astbury, in Lillias' place, in order to avoid a nasty situation. She does not feel she is suitable with her flaming red hair and unladylike behaviour, but she is prepared to do her best. Lillias, on the other hand, is selfish and deceitful. She says of marriage "Love isn't necessary. Money is."
Frederick never received love from his parents and his mother is always reminding him of his failures. Grace encourages him and builds him up. She says to him, "God has given you a life and you're the only one who can decide how to write it."
It is a story about love and second chances, and I like to see the development of the characters as they move into the plans God has for them.
Add to all this murder and attempted murder, a ghost hunt, betrayal and deception, and you will not be able to put the book down.
I cannot recommend The Mistletoe Countess highly enough.

BETRAYAL OF GENIUS by ROBIN PATCHEN
BETRAYAL OF GENIUS is the third novel in the Covenant Saga series by ROBIN PATCHEN but, although it can easily be read as a stand alone, it is great to come across characters that we have met before such as Reid Cote and his six year old daughter Ella.
Jacqueline Beal, who has produced an artificial neuron and is deciding on the best company to market it, is devastated when her laboratory with all its equipment is destroyed by her ex partner in the venture, Don Burgess, and moves from Boston to Coventry, fearing for her life.
Reid, who is in constant fear that he will lose his precious daughter, meets up with Jacqui at the ice cream parlour where she is working, and offers to help her in the administrative side of her business that Don used to do, namely writing sales copy. When things hot up he is now also in fear for her life.
We are taken on a roller coaster ride with them which is very exciting and full of twists and turns, and in which we see what true faith in God really means.
I really enjoy this author's books for the wonderful characters, thrilling stories and the strong Christian message on which they are based.
I cannot recommend Betrayal of Genius highly enough to anyone who enjoys good romantic suspense.

UNDERCURRENT OF SECRETS by RACHEL SCOTT McDANIEL
UNDERCURRENT OF SECRETS by RACHEL SCOTT McDANIEL is a most enjoyable historical romance novel which takes place over two time frames, linked in quite an amazing way and with an unforgettable love story in
each timeline. The book is based on scriptures such as "Perfect love casts out all fear", and it is good to see the main characters holding on to the Lord and His unfailing love. A quotation that I especially like is "Love is bold. It takes a good deal of courage and a trusting heart."
In present time, Devyn Asbury is getting over being dumped by her fiance Travis Leeman on the social media site, Space Station, which they developed together, where he put their relationship on display and manipulated her shamelessly. It took her a while to realise that "Her security came from God, not what the world said about her." She is now working as a wedding coordinator on the one hundred year old steamboat "The Belle of Louisville", where her love of history combines with a love of romantic old movies to provide a setting for marriages that she hopes will last.
She meets Chase Jones, an artist who is going to help her get ready for a benefit ball for the Once Upon A Wedding competition, on condition that she helps him find out about Hattie, a young girl whose picture his grandfather had.
In 1926 we are taken aboard the "Idlewild" (the original name of the Belle) and meet Hattie Louis, the young woman in question, Duffy, the captain who took her in as a baby and Jack Asbury, the first mate. We see her story unfold parallel to that of Devyn and Chase and gradually all their secrets come to light.
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you. It is a beautifully written novel, with unforgettable characters and a plot twist that I certainly was not expecting! I cannot recommend Undercurrent of Secrets highly enough.

ALL THAT IS SECRET by PATRICIA RAYBON
ALL THAT IS SECRET by PATRICIA RAYBON is a very well written historical thriller that takes place in Denver in 1923 during the height of KKK activity in the area. The story is based on this verse in Luke 8:17, "For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and be made known to all."
Annalee Spain, a young coloured professor of theology, returns to her home town of Denver to find out the truth about her father's death. Eddie Brown junior, a grubby white boy, who is also looking for the truth about his father and who saved her life on the train from Chicago, makes up one part of her detective team, the other one being the handsome Reverend Jack Blake.
I really like this author's writing style, her references to Sherlock Holmes, and the depth of the Christian message on which the story is based. One of my favourite quotations in the book is "So prayer is where God meets us - If we stay strong in it. On purpose", and another is "solving a murder is not about crime, its about finding fear and greed and, well, about lust."
As Annalee bravely faces all that is stacked against her in this world of power hungry, wealthy and unscrupulous men and women, she uncovers racism and class distinction at its worst.
The story is fast paced, the plot is exciting and the characters are unforgettable. It is altogether a great read and one I highly recommend.

THE BARRISTER AND THE LETTER OF MARQUE by TODD M JOHNSON
THE BARRISTER AND THE LETTER OF MARQUE by TODD M JOHNSON is an intriguing historical romance novel which takes us into the legal world in England in the early 1800's. I love the descriptions of London in all her vibrancy, with the underlying elements of corruption and crime.
In 1797, at the age of eighteen, William Snopes leaves his privileged life behind and sets off to fulfill his dream of becoming a barrister. He becomes acquainted with Father Thomas Neal who plays an important role in his life and in the lives of William's two assistants, Edmund Shaw and Obadiah Cummings, orphans who William rescued. I like this Christian element running through the book. i also like William's love of music that helps sustain him through the pressures of life, and his determination to help those others would see as undesirables rather than seeking to ingratiate himself with the aristocracy.
Lady Madeleine Jameson's cousin, Harold Tuttle, is arrested on his arrival home on his ship Padget and faces the gallows, due to the disappearance of the Letter of Marque he was given before he set out.
Madeleine, who borrowed money to help fund the Padget's journey, approaches William to take on Harold's case.
That is all I am going to tell you as I do not want to spoil things for you.
It is an interesting, inspirational and exciting read, full of intrigue and twists and turns, and one I cannot recommend highly enough.

FREEDOM'S SONG by KIM VOGEL SAWYER
FREEDOM'S SONG by KIM VOGEL SAWYER is a really lovely historical romance novel with a strong Christian message based on John 8:36 "if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
We meet Fanny Beck singing for the guests on the River Peacock as Sloan Kirkpatrick's prisoner and money maker. This lonely life comes to an abrupt end when she falls overboard. She makes it to shore and seizes this chance to escape, joining up with runaway slaves, Enoch and his family, who become her first friends in seven lonely years. I like to see her interaction with these people who teach her about true freedom, and also her compassion towards Anneliese, who she finds alone and crying in Walter Kuhn's cabin. In all this we see how God works to bring about His purpose in a person's life.
Walter has suffered from fear since he was bullied at school and he feels guilty that he did not save his wife Grete when she ran into their burning barn.
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I highly recommend Freedom's Song as a most enjoyable and inspirational read.

BETWEEN THE WILD BRANCHES by CONNILYN COSSETTE
BETWEEN THE WILD BRANCHES is the second novel in The Covenant House series by CONNILYN COSSETTE and it was definitely well worth waiting for! I love good biblical fiction and this author is without any doubt a master in the genre, with not only her research and knowledge of the Bible, but also her relationship with the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
If you have not already read To Dwell Among Cedars I suggest you do so in order to get the background of this book, but it can also be read as a stand alone.
We find Lukio in Ashdod ten years after leaving Kireat-Yearim and his adoptive family. He has become Devil Eyes, the Champion of Ashdod, with land and riches and Mataro the king's favour, leading to him becoming betrothed to Mariada, the king's daughter, and being made the Master of Games. This all becomes unimportant to him when he comes across Mariada's slave girl, Shoshanna, who he has loved since they were young, and hears her story and that of other Hebrew slaves.
Two of my favourite quotes in the book are "One must use every weapon one has when innocent lives are at stake" and "Oshai constantly reminded those of us who met in the wine cellar that although we could not save everyone, every life was precious, formed in the image of Yahweh Himself".
We see the difference between life in Ashdod, where the Philistines indulge in every kind of debauchery and horrific treatment of those they consider their enemies, as opposed to the simple God-fearing life of the Hebrews who adopted Lukio and his beloved sister Risi into their family in Kireat-Yearim.
It is a story of sacrificial love, extravagant mercy, forgiveness and redemption, as we watch Lukio live out the prophetic word given to him by Samuel, the prophet and great man of God.
I cannot recommend Between The Wild Branches highly enough. It is a wonderfully inspirational novel, full of biblical truth, and one I will read more than once.

TO FIND HER PLACE by SUSAN ANNE MASON
TO FIND HER PLACE is the second novel in the Redemption's Lighr series by SUSAN ANNE MASON, but it easily stands alone. It is a sensitively written story of broken people, redemption, unconditional love and second chances, with unforgettable characters.
The story takes place in Toronto during the second world war with Jane Linder, the acting director of the Children's Aid Society, and Garrett Wilder, an independent advisor who is hoping to get the managing director's job now that his war injuries make it impossible for him to work on his father's farm. Jane also badly needs the job as she is divorced and takes care of her elderly mother. In spite of this they need to learn to work together.
Then we have the abandoned children, who are more numerous now due to the harsh wartime economy and the diminishing number of willing foster parents - a heart wrenching dilemma. Both Jane and Garrett believe that each child deserves a loving home in which they can develop their full potential.
There is a great deal more to the novel, which I found most inspirational. There is a strong sense of God's purposes and plans working out in people's lives as they learn to trust Him.
I am not going to tell you any more as I do not want to spoil the read for you.
It is a lovely book and one I highly recommend.

POWER PLAY by RACHEL DYLAN
POWER PLAY is the third novel in the Capital Intrigue series by RACHEL DYLAN, and, although it can be read as a stand alone, it is great to come across characters from the first two books as we follow Vivian's story. It is a legal thriller and the suspense will grip you right to the last page. There is also some romance and a good Christian message.
Vivian Steele is an attorney in the Office of the Legal Advisor at the State Department. Her best friend, Layla Karam McCoy, works for the CIA. She has other friends who work in various law enforcement agencies.
She meets former Navy SEAL, Jacob Cruz, at a diplomatic dinner in the Washington DC area where Ali Zidan, the Egyptian ambassador, falls down dead and Penelope King, the US ambassador to Belgium, has to be rushed to hospital.
The scene is set and I am not going to tell you anything more!
The book is well written, the characters are real and the plot is exciting and well worked out. I highly recommend Power Play to anyone who enjoys a really good thriller.

THE PRIZE-WINNING STORY by KEN YODER REED
THE PRIZE-WINNING STORY by KEN YODER REED is, in my opinion, a must read for anyone who loves the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, has a love for the Jewish people and for the land of Israel, and also for those who want to learn more about Israel and Jewish heritage.
Pastor Vladdy, the host of the radio show For Zion's Sake, asks his Jewish friend, Major Eli Bloom, to be the tour guide on his fifteenth annual tour of the Holy Land. Eli agrees on one condition - that there is a prize awarded at the end of the tour to the person who tells the best story. This story must have two elements - first they must speak of what touches them at a particular place on the tour and secondly their story must have something to do with relationships between Jews and Christians.
As we travel through Israel with this assortment of people, the author makes us aware, through both the Old and New Testaments, of not only the history but also the very essence of God's Promised Land and its people.
I absolutely loved the book for the truth it embodies and the interesting characters who the author describes with understanding and quite a bit of humour.
I cannot recommend The Prize-Winning Story highly enough.

TRACE OF DOUBT by DIANN MILLS
I always look forward to a new novel by DIANN MILLS and have never been disappointed! TRACE OF DOUBT is no exception. It is a thrilling story, with just enough romance and a really good Christian message.
When Shelby Pierce comes out of jail after fifteen years and is dropped off at Valleysburg in Texas she is not only physically strong, from having had to ward off attacks from inmates and guards, she is strong in the Lord, having had a very real conversion experience. However, she has secrets, which threaten her new found freedom, and that of her family and new friends.
Denton McClure, her friendly next door neighbour, also has a secret which Shelby uncovers, making her suspicious of his motives.
The characters are well defined, and, as the author portrays them, we see sacrifice, unconditional love and forgiveness, as opposed to greed, hatred, lies and manipulation.
There are so many twists and turns in this story that you will be kept in suspense right to the end.
I cannot recommend Trace of Doubt highly enough. It is an inspiring and exciting read.

MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE by ROBIN LEE HATCHER
MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE by ROBIN LEE HATCHER is a beautifully written split timeline romance novel in which the two stories run seamlessly side by side meeting up when an old and valuable violin is found in Rosemary Townsend's antique shop.
Both Chelsea Spencer, in present time, and Cora Anderson, in 1895, escape abusive and controlling situations by moving to the small town of Chickadee Creek, each of them wondering if their past lives will catch up with them there.
There are really great characters and beautiful love stories in each time period and there is strong biblical truth running through the novel. It is good to see, amongst other things, Chelsea overcoming fear by holding on to her faith and the Bible verses that she knows, Cora choosing faith over superstition and Liam Chandler coming to Chickadee Creek in order to get his priorities in order.
The novel is about sacrificial love, redemption, forgiveness, the healing of broken lives and the strength that comes from the Lord when one is weak.
It is altogether an enjoyable and inspirational read and one I cannot recommend highly enough.

PROVENANCE by CARLA LAUREANO
PROVENANCE by CARLA LAUREANO is a beautifully written romance novel with unforgettable characters and an encouraging story. There is a strong Christian message, namely the importance of dealing with one's past so that it does not affect our future, forgiveness and restoration.
When Kendall Green goes to Jasper Lake to accept her inheritance, she has no idea that she is part of the town's history. In fact other people seem to know more about her provenance than she does. Being a designer whose main interest is in restoring historical homes and sourcing antiques, she is the ideal person to help save the town from a huge commercial development, but will she really want to be involved in restoring something her family, who seem to have rejected her when she was five, once owned? It is in researching the provenance of her grandmother's house, with the young mayor, Gabriel Brandt's assistance, that she gradually learns the truth about where she came from. I love the comparison of the foster parents, who wanted to adopt her, with God the Father who is waiting with open arms to adopt us.
Although Gabe has issues with his father he realizes that Kendall was in a much worse situation when she was growing up. Being a "fixer" he desperately wants to save the town from being ruined by Phil Burton and his grandiose development ideas, but knows that Kendall needs the money the sale of the houses will bring in to save her design business. As he gets to know Kendall he realizes that he wants to fix her problems as well and I really like to see his kindness and strong Christian values. Both Kendall and Gabe have great depth of character in spite of, or maybe because of, what they have been through.
It is altogether a lovely read and one I highly recommend.

GIRLS OF SUMMER by C E HILBERT
Charlotte Dixon is the product of a seemingly loveless childhood. She is taken advantage of by her mother, who has ties with the Russian mafia and is siphoning money out of Charlotte's New York gallery to fund her gambling debts. When her father dies he leaves his fortune to Charlotte and her half sister Georgie, if they can live together and run the business for a year. Georgie is a loving Christian girl, who had a great childhood, and whose mother treated Charlotte as her own daughter during the short period that she was allowed to spend with her father. Will Charlotte ever be able to settle into life with her noisy, interfering Southern family, or will she give up and go back to her life in New York?
When the FBI interview her with regard to her mother's involvement with organized crime, things literally start "blowing up" around her.
Does she know more than she is telling the agents and her handsome in house lawyer, Mac Taylor, and is she a willing partner in her mother's crimes? And what about her Russian grandmother - where does she fit into it all?
I will leave it to you to find out!
I cannot recommend Girls of Summer highly enough as an exciting and inspirational read.

LET IT BE ME by BECKY WADE
LET IT BE ME by BECKY WADE is a beautifully written love story in which the author deals sensitively with many subjects, such as pediatric heart surgery, loyalty amongst friends, forgiveness, second chances and unselfish love; and through it all we get the sense of a loving Father God, being in control and bringing good out of all things. We also see God's miracle power at work as He protects and heals broken people, both physically and emotionally.
Leah Montgomery is very young when she becomes her brother Dylan's caregiver due to their father's disappearance and their mother's maternal ineptitude. Leah is a mathematical genius and gave up her chance of studying at Princeton and becming a math professor in order to provide a stable life for her beloved brother. She is a woman of logic and reason and tells everyone she does not "do romance". When she finds out that she is not related to her biological parents, she searches everywhere to find out what went wrong on the day she was born.
Dr Sebastian Grant is a pediatric heart surgeon who does not let anyone close to him, except for his friend Ben Coleman and Ben's family. When his mother, his only living relative, died, he became rebellious and fought his way through school.
I do not want to tell you any more, but there is a great deal more to Let It Be Me. I really loved this novel and cannot recommend it highly enough.

A WOMAN OF WORDS by ANGELA HUNT
A WOMAN OF WORDS is the third novel in the Jerusalem Road series by ANGELA HUNT but it can easily stand alone. This author has an amazing way of writing biblical fiction that enhances rather than detracts from the truth of God's Word.
The story starts with the disciple Matthew being called from Capernaum to help with the Lord's work in Jerusalem. When he arrives there he is disappointed to hear that he will be doing accounting work instead of preaching to the lost with the other disciples.
We see Mary, the mother of Jesus, being led by the Holy Spirit to ask Matthew to help her write about Jesus' life. After a rather rocky start, they form a strong bond when Matthew realizes that the story of Jesus is to be just that, with none of him or his clever way with words in it. This really spoke to me. How many times do we push ourselves into another's story in order to make a good impression?
It is a fascinating way to look at the birth of Matthew's gospel, with Mary and Matthew interviewing people who were with Jesus when neither of them were there.
I like to see Mary portrayed as an ordinary woman who was divinely appointed to bear the Saviour of the world but is in no way divine herself nor should she be seen as such.
The novel is full of wonderful and well loved biblical characters together with the ongoing threat from Rome and many of the Pharisees.
I am not going to tell you any more of the story for fear of spoiling things for you.
I highly recommend A Woman Of Words to anyone who enjoys biblical fiction and who loves God's Word, or for anyone who is searching for the truth about Jesus and His gospel.

ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS by NICOLE DEESE
ALL THAT REALLY MATTERS by NICOLE DEESE is a well written novel which is equal parts amusing and serious, as top trending influencer, Molly McKenzie of Makeup Matters with Molly, meets Silas Whittaker, his staff and the underprivileged and hurting young adults at The Bridge Youth Home. Her life will never be the same.
I love the way the author shows us this self- focused young woman, whose only friends are on line, excepting for her even more self-focused boyfriend/ agent, learning what really matters in life.
It is a very real book with very real characters and in which the author addresses very real issues. The Christian message is also very real.
I cannot recommend All That Really Matters highly enough. It is a most enjoyable and lovely read.

GLIMMER IN THE DARKNESS by ROBIN PATCHEN
Cassidy Leblanc sees herself as a tossaway child, the only time she felt she belonged was when she was at her boyfriend James Sullivan's home with his parents and little sister Hallie. When she is accused of killing Hallie she disappears, changes her name and gets a job working with problem girls in Seattle.
I like to see Cassidy's strong faith in God and her courage in coming back to look for Ella on Mt Ayasha. It is a story about hope and second chances.
I am not going to tell you any more as I do not want to spoil the read for you.
I cannot recommend Glimmer In The Darkness highly enough and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

CHASING SHADOWS by LYNN AUSTIN
CHASING SHADOWS by LYNN AUSTIN is a beautifully told WW11 story which takes place in Holland and shows us the incredible courage and faith of three women who fight against the Nazi occupation in spite of their fear. As is always the case with this author, Christ's teachings lie at the foundation of the novel. We see Miriam Jacobs, a Jewess who escaped from Germany, Lena de Vries, a farmer's wife and her daughter Ans, who moves to Leiden, living lives of sacrifice in order to feed the hungry and hide Jews and other "undesirables" from the enemy. We see sacrificial love at its best throughout the story as opposed to the blind hatred of the enemy. We see people making difficult choices and not knowing who to trust in a world that has gone mad. We also see the healing power of music and how fear can drive a person towards faith in God.
I have only mentioned three of the wonderful characters, but there are many more who choose to resist rather than embrace the enemy, no matter the cost. It is really a most inspirational and thought provoking read.
.I cannot recommend Chasing Shadows strongly enough. In fact I would say that it is now one of my most favourite books and it is one I will definitely read more than once.

JEWEL OF THE NILE by TESSA AFSHAR
TESSA AFSHAR's novels are well worth waiting for and JEWEL OF THE NILE is certainly no exception! What a lovely book and what a beautiful message. I particularly like the scripture verses at the beginning of each chapter which really fit in and enlarge the reading experience. To me the main message is that of Jesus being the only one who can make broken people whole, and that we need to see ourselves, scarred though we may be, through His eyes. As Theo says, "The trouble with scars is that they tell their own twisted story. They make you see yourself through their own distorted mirror." There is also the longing for family and to belong, and the debilitating effects of guilt and the inability to forgive oneself.
The story starts with Chariline visiting her grandparents in Meroe, the capital of Cush. At their home she hears something they do not want her to hear which sends her to Rome in search of the truth. There is something else she overhears, this time in the Kandake's court, which leaves her confused as to what she should do with rhe information.
Desperate to get to Rome, she stows away on Theodotus of Corinth's ship. We have met Theo before in Thief of Corinth and Daughter of Rome. We also come across the desciple Philip, and Aquila and Priscilla, whose story is told in Daughter of Rome. I must add, though, that each of these wonderful novels can definitely stand alone.
I enjoyed everything about this book and cannot recommend Jewel of the Nile highly enough, especially to anyone who enjoys biblical historical novels.

A TAPESTRY OF LIGHT by KIMBERLY DUFFY
A TAPESTRY OF LIGHT by KIMBERLY DUFFY is a book that really spoke to my heart and brought tears to my eyes.
The story moves between Calcutta in India and Wiltshire in England, giving us insight into what life was like in these two countries in the nineteenth century. The novel has a wealth of wonderful characters and a heartwarming Christian message.
Otillie Russell is Eurasian, looking more Indian than British, whereas her little brother Thaddeus looks completely European. As Otillie says of herself "She was either not enough or too much of one or the other." When Thaddeus is all that is left of her beloved family, she leaves India with Englishman Everett Scott for her six year old brother to take up his responsibilities as Baron of Sunderson Park.
I like the author's description of life in India with its sights, sounds and smells, exotic food and people, as opposed to a constrictive life in England. Ottilie's fear of rejection and feelings of loneliness, which have always been a part of her life, are exacerbated by the lack of welcome shown by her father's family.
There are so many secrets in her family and also in Everett's, with him longing to belong in a society that has made very strict rules.
I do not want to spoil the read for you - there is so much I could say but I will leave you to discover this beautiful story for yourselves. The message of faith starting as a mustard seed in our hearts and either growing or being discarded, is really beautifully woven into the tapestry, and the beetle wing embroidery brings a special light into the story.
This is a novel I will read many times and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

HOPE BETWEEN THE PAGES by PEPPER BASHAM
The story starts in 1915 with Sadie Blackwell, a servant working for Mrs Vanderbilt at Biltmore House. She is in charge of the library and chooses books for the various visitors to enjoy during their stay. This is where she meets Oliver, who seems to be a real kindred spirit, although he is way above her, being part of the upper class.
Clara Blackwell and her mother own Blackwell's book shop in Biltmore. The shop was started by granny Sadie. In order to keep the shop, Clara goes to England to try and find missing paperwork that will prove that it did indeed belong to Sadie. Here Clara starts on a real life adventure that has all the elements of exciting fiction.
This is all I am going to tell you as I do not want to spoil things for you.
This novel is a real keeper and one I will read more than once. I highly recommend it as a most enjoyable read.

TIDES OF DUPLICITY by ROBIN PATCHEN
The story starts with Tabitha Eaton and Fritz McCaffrey meeting on holiday in Belize. Fritz is a P.I. who is working on a case and he has brought his teenage sister Shelby with him for a holiday. Their parents were killed in an accident and Fritz is now Shelby's guardian. Tabby is stuck in a job she hates and in a family situation she feels she cannot escape, and she booked this holiday a year ago to get away from it all for two weeks.
When Tabby leaves to go home, having decided she cannot possibly have a long distance relationship with Fritz, much as she would love to, let alone leave her home to be near him, something happens that makes Fritz unsure of her, although he was the one that felt they could have a future together.
I will not tell you any more of the story. It is fast paced and exciting with, amongst other things, mobsters, kidnapping, drugs and a jewelry heist. I guarantee you will not be able to put the book down.
There are some great characters and of course some villains who will stop at nothing.
There is a strong Christian message running through the story.
I cannot recommend Tides Of Duplicity enough to those of you who enjoy a good thriller with quite a bit of romance.

ROOTS OF WOOD AND STONE by AMANDA WEN
ROOTS OF WOOD AND STONE by AMANDA WEN is a most enjoyable split time novel with great characters in both of the time frames. I like the way the two stories come together and are held together by the old farmhouse.
When Garrett Anderson, a financial planner, comes down to the old farmhouse to help his sister Lauren sort out their grandmother's affairs, he finds an old satchel that he dumps on Sloane Kelley, the Sedgwick museum's historical curator's, desk. She is ready to throw it out until she comes across a diary which she finds out later belonged to Annabelle Collins 150 years ago. Sloane becomes hooked on Annabelle's story, especially when Garrett finds more diaries, which she devours. Sloane and Garrett become good friends and seem to really understand one another. In fact it is the first time that Sloane, who was left on a bus as a baby and adopted, feels as though she is worth something and accepted for herself - no longer plan B!
Throughout the novel we get the message of God's care for His children and that we need to submit to His plans for our life rather than following our own ways. Also we are reminded of the importance of forgiveness and the fact that each of us is special in God's eyes.
Roots Of Wood And Stone is a really beautiful read and one I highly recommend.

THREE MISSING DAYS by COLLEEN COBLE
THREE MISSING DAYS is the third novel in the Pelican Harbor series by COLLEEN COBLE. The whole series is outstanding, and I recommend that you read the books in sequence, but Three Missing Days can be read as a stand alone. It is a suspense filled thriller with quite a bit of romance. The characters are unforgettable and I am really sorry to say goodbye to them, having followed them since reading One Little Lie. The author writes her stories based on Christian truths, which really enhances her books.
Jane Hardy, the chief of police in Pelican Harbor, and Reid Dixon, have a fifteen year old son Will, who is charged with murder. It is obvious that he has been set up, but the question is by whom and for what reason?
It is imperative that Jane remembers what happened during three missing days in her childhood, especially when a militant group from a cult connected to her past are found camping on an island close by, led by an unscrupulous man who wants information from her. She feels that this, together with two deaths in a house fire, are somehow connected to Will's case.
I am not going to tell you any more as I do not want to spoil things for you, but I guarantee that you will not be able to put the book down until you have read the last page. Three Missing Days is an exciting and enjoyable read and one I cannot recommend highly enough.

AFTERMATH by TERRI BLACKSTOCK
AFTERMATH is a legal thriller which shows TERRI BLACKSTOCK at her best. It is an exciting read with great characters and a strong Christian message in which we see God's grace and restoration, and His gift of second chances to those who follow Him.
When Dustin Webb is framed for the explosion at a concert and political rally, he calls a childhood friend, Jamie Powell, to defend him. She is a lawyer in a big firm and has to talk the partners into letting her take the case.
Taylor Reid is a young girl who survives the explosion and feels guilty for escaping when her two best friends did not make it.
Travis Grey is Dustin's best friend and a partner in their high powered security firm. He has his own problems with his wife, the mother of his two year old twin sons, who is in hospital dying of leukemia.
Two more characters we find in the mix are Avery, Jamie's daughter, and Dude, Dustin's boisterous and loving black Labrador.
The scene is set and you will have to read the book to find out more!
The story is fast paced and I guarantee it will keep you up until you have read the last page. I highly recommend Aftermath to anyone who enjoys a good romantic thriller.

CENTRED by JASON BROWN
CENTRED by JASON BROWN is the most inspirational true story that I read last year. It is well written and I like the author's honesty and humour as he tells the story of his rise to fame in NFL football and his obedience in giving it all up in order to follow God's plan for his life.
He speaks about the importance of putting faith and family first and what happens when pride creeps in. The book is full of Bible stories and Scriptures that underscore what the Lord is teaching him. He speaks of the importance of working at a marriage and of how his wife Tay not only backs him in a venture that most people find foolish, but she also challenges his faith when he is close to giving up.
It is a book that I will read more than once. I have found it most encouraging and also challenging.
