Christian Novel Review

Having always been an avid reader, since becoming a Christian I have found a wealth of reading material in Christian bookshops and in various second hand bookshops. I have found that in Christian novels one often finds truths that help in one’s Christian walk. I enjoy reading about how the various characters deal with life, and I also find I am the richer for reading a really good Christian novel. Certain authors, through their books, give you a real insight into their joys and struggles, which I find very interesting. The books which I am going to review are those which I have really enjoyed, and have read at least twice – some books, for example the “Mark of the Lion “ series by Francine Rivers, I have read at least five times each. The first books that I am going to talk about are the latest two novels by Francine Rivers,

THE WIND BLOWS IN SLEEPING GRASS by KATIE POWNER

Publication date 26/9/23
THE WIND BLOWS IN SLEEPING GRASS by KATIE POWNER  is a delightful read with humour and depth as the author beautifully describes the life and emotions of fifty year old Pete Ryman, who lives quietly in Sleeping Grass,Montana with his pot bellied pig, Pearl, and his friend Windy Ray, whose deep faith in the Creater and his words of biblical wisdom are brought out at just the right time. The characters, both human and animal, in this poignant story, will live on in your heart….
Pete has a very low self image due to ongoing rejection and being told that he will never make anything of his life. In fact he has noticed that “In his experience, people’s interest in him never lasted long.” His rage against life’s unfairness has not made things easy in the past.
Working as a garbage man, cleaning up other people’s messes, he finds all kinds of treasure in what people throw away. As Windy Ray says “everything the Creator mekes has value, but a man must choose whether he wants to see it.”
As Pete’s world becomes enlarged with new people coming into his life, there is not only a great deal to forgive, but there are more people to love……….
I am not going to spoil the read for you by telling you any more.
I cannot recommend The Wind Blows in Sleeing Grass highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

SKYE FALL by PAIGE EDWARDS

Publcatio date 24/10/23
SKYE FALL by PAIGE EDWARDS is a beautifully written romantic novel based on  a strong Christian message of redemption. Dealing with abuse, police corruption, politics and terrorism, as contrasted with the sacrificial love of family and those in need, the story is most inspirational. I was hooked from the befginning and could not put this lovely and exciting book down! The author has not only painted beautiul scenes, mainly of the Scottish countryside, but she has taken us through her charaters’ very real fears and struggles ….
I like to see the British nobility portrayed as normal people, the love Ben has for his father and siblings, and the love Isla has for her family by keeping away so that they are not attacked by Shay and his cohorts. Ben’s caring and unselfish character is a portrait of a real man who knows who he is in Christ…..
I was really moved by this book and cannot recommend it highly enough.

The story takes place in 1809. There is snobbery, pride, blackmail, jealousy, gossip, hatred and much more, as those of the ton look down on anyone less fortunate than themselves. Edward  Gresham will do anything to avoid losing his important position in society and his inheritance….
