Christian Novel Review

Having always been an avid reader, since becoming a Christian I have found a wealth of reading material in Christian bookshops and in various second hand bookshops. I have found that in Christian novels one often finds truths that help in one’s Christian walk. I enjoy reading about how the various characters deal with life, and I also find I am the richer for reading a really good Christian novel. Certain authors, through their books, give you a real insight into their joys and struggles, which I find very interesting. The books which I am going to review are those which I have really enjoyed, and have read at least twice – some books, for example the “Mark of the Lion “ series by Francine Rivers, I have read at least five times each. The first books that I am going to talk about are the latest two novels by Francine Rivers,

NIGHTINGALE by SUSAN MAY WARREN

NIGHTINGALE by SUSAN MAY WARREN is a sensitively written story which takes place at the end of the Second World War in a largely German community in a small town in America. It is a story of forgiveness, of second chances and of hope in pretty hopeless situations.
Esther feels lost after giving herself to a handsome soldier, Linus Hahn, in a moment of weakness and ending up having his child. Abandoned by her parents, she ends up living with his very disapproving mother and father. She feels abandoned by God as well. She knows she never loved Linus and hopes he never loved her too, feeling that would somehow make her less of a sinner.
She is a nurse and loves her work, although there are times that she is discouraged by seeing the badly injured soldiers who have returned from fighting for their country, having left so much of themselves, both physically and mentally, on the battle fields of Europe. Men that have come back from war, changed by the horrific things they have seen and experienced. It is the nightingales, the committed nurses and doctors, that bring hope and healing to broken people.
Esther finds redemption from a most unlikely source, an enemy soldier who is responsible for saving Linus' life. Peter Hess is a doctor who is committed to saving lives. He believes in Esther and encourages her to study for an exam which will give her a more fulfilling nursing job. His unwavering faith in God and his willingness to lay down his life for others is in strong contrast to Mrs Hahn's judgmental attitude, and Esther's parents' condemnation of both Esther and her older sister Hedy. It is through his faithfulness that she starts to understand that she doesn't have to work for the Lord's forgiveness, that He has already forgiven her, and that He loves her just as she is.
The theme of being in prison, in Peter's case a POW camp, and emotionally in Esther's case, runs through the novel. Peter feels he is responsible for his father's arrest and needs to make up for it somehow, just as Esther wants to go back to the person she was before. We see that we all need someone to believe in us, which in turn helps us to see ourselves as Father God sees us.
It is a story of repentance and new beginnings, with very real characters and is full of Christian truth. I cannot recommend this novel highly enough.

WAR ROOM : PRAYER IS A POWERFUL WEAPON by CHRIS FABRY

WAR ROOM : PRAYER IS A POWERFUL WEAPON - the title says it all! This is a novel that is so full of Christian truth that I really cannot recommend it strongly enough. It is a book about ordinary people getting down on their knees and taking God at His word, doing spiritual warfare and seeing the results in their family and in the lives of those for whom they pray. It is a powerful book with a message that those of us who care about our families and those with whom we come into contact, really need to take to heart.
The characters are very real and we feel their conflicts, especially as things often get worse before they get better! Miss Clara is a delightful old lady with a mission. She has a prayer room where she does battle against the powers of darkness, as she is led by her Lord to pray for those He brings into her life.
Elizabeth Jordan is a real estate agent who finds that selling Miss Clara's house is literally a life changing experience, as she is led to making her own war room where she does battle for her family. She is made to examine her lukewarm Christianity by Miss Clara's probing questions. Her new prayer life in her very own prayer closet rubs off on her daughter, Danielle, who also prays fervently for her family with the help of her prayer journal.
Tony Jordan is a nominal Christian, at best, who bends the rules at his workplace, where he is a very successful salesman. He is impatient with his wife and daughter and spends his time at the gym when he is not on the road, to keep away from a nagging wife and a daughter who is a disappointment with her choice of sport - jumping rope is not exactly the sport he would have chosen for her! His best friend, Michael, is a paramedic, who is a committed Christian. Tony and Liz have grown apart, each following their own careers. They blame each other for their disappointing family relationships. We see that often we need to get to the end of ourselves before we are prepared to trust God to work in our situation.
The main Character in this novel is the Lord, who works in people's hearts as they yield to Him and allow Him to work in their own hearts and lives first, before delivering their loved ones and those for whom they pray.
The novel is full of symbolism and biblical truth and the story really gives the glory to Jesus as He "works all things together for good" for those who trust Him. The characters are real people and we can relate to their struggles. The movie is coming to South Africa in February next year, I think, and I am looking forward to it, but the novel is really worth reading more than once. It is definitely one of the best books I have read.

THE SONG by CHRIS FABRY

THE SONG by CHRIS FABRY is a love story based on biblical values with echoes of the Song of Solomon running through it. The characters are very real and their struggles are well portrayed and very relevant in today's world, where alcohol, drugs and illicit sex are some of the tools Satan uses to break up marriages.
There is a contrast between Shepherd Jordan's vineyard and the wines he produces, and the wild parties Jed gets involved in when he is on the music circuit, where alcohol and drugs are horribly abused.
Jed King's songs come from the heart. In the beginning he has a heart after God, but he changes. There are many factors leading to this, the main one being that he is hardly ever home with his family, and he and Rose grow apart.
Rose is a country girl with solid morals and a desire to live for the Lord. The first time she meets Jed he sings The Song, which he feels the Lord gave him, and she is strongly drawn to him. Later on when The Song and Jed become famous, he doesn't like being forced to sing it as it reminds him of when it was special to them.
We see how easy it is for the sins of the father to be passed down to the son, and how Jed's father warned him to stay close to the Lord and to his family.
The importance of marriage and family life is strongly brought out in this book. It is full of relevant scriptures and biblical truth and we can all learn so much about life from this author. He writes so well that we feel what the characters are feeling. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

ON THIS FOUNDATION by LYNN AUSTIN

ON THIS FOUNDATION by LYNN AUSTIN is the third book in the RESTORATION CHRONICLES series and is beautifully written like the first two. I suggest you read them in sequence, but they can each be read as stand alone books.
The story takes place in the time of Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. This is to me one of the most exciting stories in the Old Testament and it has such relevance for us today in our own walk with the Lord. The title itself speaks to us about the importance of building on the right foundation, and the fictional aspect of the novel backs up the biblical precepts very well. The author has blended her characters into the whole and we see how the building of the walls affected each of them, teaching us the biblical truths more clearly.
We see the importance of trusting God in all situations, of not giving in to the taunts of the enemy and of giving Him all the glory for answered prayer. The building of the walls and the restoring of the gates of the holy City, Jerusalem, is also symbolic of our protection as the people of God from the evils of the world. We need to stand on the Word of God without wavering and He will undertake for us in every situation. The devil is always trying to break us down, especially by making us despair and give up by attacking our faith. We see how the different characters deal with this constant physical and mental attack, and how the Lord comes through in a supernatural manner.
We see Nehemiah's faith and Godly wisdom in refusing to give in to his enemies. We also see how both Chana and Nava draw away from God, blaming Him for things that have happened to them, until they learn the truth largely through the old shepherd Shimon and his unshakeable faith. The importance of getting rid of bitterness and unforgiveness, and of repentance, is brought out strongly. We see how Nehemiah feels guilty for his parents' death, although he could have done nothing to prevent it, and tries to make amends by protecting his brothers. This is totally different to the lack of repentance shown by Malkijah's wicked son, Aaron, who refuses to take responsibility for his actions, let alone repent of them.
I like the author's description of Temple worship and the picture she gives us of life at that time. The life of the very rich and that of the very poor is well contrasted, and the importance of humility rather than arrogance, and pleasing God rather than man, is well brought out.
This is a really first class book, both for the lovely story and the strong message, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

REMEMBERING YOU by TRICIA GOYER

REMEMBERING YOU by TRICIA GOYER is an unforgettable book, telling the story of two World War II veterans revisiting the places in Belgium, Germany and Austria where they fought in the Eleventh Armoured Division. Traveling with their grandchildren, it is more than a trip down memory lane for each of them. While they revisit the past, we see how their battles have not only been physical but also very emotional. We see how they each struggle to come to grips with their own battle and how what they have been through in the past has affected their lives. Guilt for wrong decisions, unforgiveness, fear, especially the fear of being betrayed by loved ones, and questions about God's part in everything they go through, all play a part in the way they behave. The characters are beautifully portrayed and the story plays out against the backdrop of magnificent European scenery.
I like the interaction between the older and younger generation and also the way they each draw closer to the Lord. I like the way these old heroes of the past are honoured for their bravery. I also like the way they have not been forgotten, especially by the prisoners of war whom they freed from the dreaded Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria. They are an inspiration to their grandchildren to never give up, no matter the odds, and to try to make a difference in the world wherever possible.
This is a novel that is high on my favorites list and is well worth reading, both for the lovely story and the strong Christian content.

BY REASON OF INSANITY by RANDY SINGER

I don't know how I missed BY REASON OF INSANITY by RANDY SINGER as I thought I had read all his novels, but I'm so glad I eventually found this "very hard to put down " book! This author provides us with rivetting legal thrillers with a good Christian message, and By Reason of Insanity is no exception.
Catherine O'Roarke is a journalist who takes her work seriously. She has reported on many court cases, but there is one that really touches her heart and that brings up a very painful memory from her past. It is the case of Quinn Newberg's sister who is being tried for the murder of her abusive husband.
When Catherine gets into trouble herself, largely due to visions she has that make her look guilty, she asks Quinn, who represented his sister with an insanity plea, to help her, and is even willing to go the same route, as she has started to doubt her own sanity.
Willing to go to jail to protect her source, she finds being incarcerated for murder an even worse experience. Judged in the press, vilified as a murderer, things just become worse for her. The one constant she holds onto is Quinn. Quinn who, with his devotion to his sister and niece, and his tireless attempts to help Catherine, shows her what the Bible means by laying down one's life for another.
Are these visions a curse or a blessing? Where do they come from? Is she really insane?
The plot is excellent and one is kept guessing as to the outcome right to the very end. I can highly recommend this novel.

THROUGH WATERS DEEP by SARAH SUNDIN

THROUGH WATERS DEEP by SARAH SUNDIN takes place in Boston just before the United States officially entered the Second World War. The author has obviously done a great deal of research as she describes life at that time and the tension in the country between those who wanted to help Britain and those who didn't want to fight for Britain at any cost! The Christian message that runs throughout is expertly woven into the story.
Mary Stirling works as Mr Barton Pennington's secretary at the Boston Navy Shipyard. She loves her job and takes it seriously. She is friendly and efficient. When there is unrest at the shipyard and the strong possibility of sabotage, Mary, who was brought up on Nancy Drew mysteries as a child, takes notes as she observes people's actions and listens to their conversations. She feels she can help the F. B. I. in their investigation and is mortified when they fail to take her seriously to start with.
The one person who does take her seriously is Jim Avery who was at school with Mary. They become very good friends and secretly fall in love with each other!
Mary doesn't have a very good self image and is afraid of becoming proud. She definitely doesn't want to stand out and be noticed in any situation. At first she feels that it is prideful to think that her observations could be of any help to the F. B. I. and the shipyard, and then she realizes that she is not being motivated by pride at all but by the desire to save lives. In the same way she sees that by singing in the choir with the lovely voice He has given her is glorifying to God and helping the congregation to worship Him.
Jim is a "floater" going through life without wanting to make waves. He wonders which path he will be led on until he takes action and asks the Lord to show him what to do. It is when his Naval Commander tells his men to all read Nehemiah that a real change comes over Jim, both at sea where he has to make hard decisions, and in his relationships.
Both Mary and Jim show great courage, not only in facing danger, but also in the way they each overcome their deepest fears.
I love the Nehemiah theme and the verses from Isaiah chapter forty-three that encourage both Mary and Jim in their Christian walk. The novel is full of depth and the characters true to life. The story is riveting and I am sure you won't be able to put it down!

THE DAUGHTERS OF JIM FARRELL by SYLVIA BAMBOLA

THE DAUGHTERS OF JIM FARRELL by SYLVIA BAMBOLA is an exciting read with a strong Christian message of practising forgiveness rather than wanting revenge.
Kate Farrell, in particular, struggles with this, and stirs up trouble for those she loves in her single minded desire to clear her father's name. Will she learn to forgive or will she continue to live a life filled with bitterness and anger?
It is interesting to see how each of the Farrell girls deal with the circumstances in which they find themselves, and with the men they have come to love.
The author paints a vivid picture of life in the coal and anthracite mining area of Pennsylvania in the late 1800's. The story is laced with fact which makes it very credible.
We see the destruction brought about by men's greed, as opposed to the gentle goodness of the girl's mother, with her deeds of Christian love and charity, and the biblical standards she instills into her daughters.
We see the abject poverty of the miners which stirs the hearts of the Farrell women and makes them grateful for what they have. Even though they no longer have much standing in the community they still have each other and a decent lifestyle.
As is so often the case, it is when disaster strikes that the different characters show what they are made of, either turning to the Lord and to one another for help, or falling further into a life of deception.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and can highly recommend it.

FLEE THE NIGHT by SUSAN MAY WARREN

FLEE THE NIGHT by SUSAN MAY WARREN has it all - from international espionage to a love story that will bring tears to your eyes as it mirrors God's incredible love for His children.
Jim Micah is God's man. The scripture verse he is hoping to live by is found in the book of Micah, chapter six verse eight, and his faith is important to him. When the girl he has loved since high school marries his best friend, and then is accused of his murder, he is determined to bring her to justice.
Lacey has always loved Micah, but she chose a life of adventure and espionage with John Galloway, who swept her away from Micah as well as from the God she used to serve.
We see the difference between someone like John who wanted to change the world, living dangerously and selfishly, and Jim Micah who has a heart of compassion for those who are lost, physically as well as spiritually, and who has a relationship with Jesus Christ. Micah knows God's grace and mercy, and knows he is forgiven. Lacey feels that God cannot possibly love her or forgive her because she has made so many wrong choices. She is angry with Micah for not declaring his love to her when they were young. She keeps escaping from him because she doesn't want any harm to come to him, and he goes from not trusting her to being ashamed of himself for doubting her.
It is a story about coming home, both to the place where one belongs and to the person to whom one belongs, but more importantly, it is about coming home to the Lord.
It is a story about trust, unconditional love, reconciliation, truth and lies, the importance of forgiveness, and searching for those who are lost in darkness.
The plot makes for exciting reading and is full of biblical truth. The characters are very real and their struggles are well portrayed throughout the book. I can highly recommend this novel. Although it is not necessary to,do,so, I read the prequel, WAITING FOR DAWN, which gives some background to the story. In fact, I have read many novels by this author and have not been disappointed in any of them. I particularly enjoy the depth of scriptural truth that runs through her books.

BATTERED JUSTICE by LINDA WHITE

In BATTERED JUSTICE by LINDA WHITE we find Jake Tucker and Cassidy McKenna working together once more as F. B. I. agents. They have quite a history, and although they seemed at one time to be heading into a romantic involvement, they have settled into being very good friends. Although I strongly advise reading BLOODY POINT first, BATTERED JUSTICE can be read as a stand alone novel.
The story deals with drug trafficking, gambling, domestic violence and corruption and is fast paced and exciting. There is also a strong Christian message running throughout and I like the way we see Jake and Cass grow in their walk with the Lord.
We see how a man who is falsely accused chooses to trust his God, even when things look hopeless in the natural. How he chooses to humble himself before the Lord, fighting against the anger that threatens to overtake him at the injustice he is facing.
We see love overcoming fear and the importance of trusting the Lord even when things are going horribly wrong. We get a real feeling of the sovereignty of God in this legal drama.
I have been looking forward to this sequel to BLOODY POINT, as I have read and enjoyed all Linda's novels, and am definitely not disappointed! I highly recommend this book as a really good read.

PACIFIC HOPE by BETTE NORDBERG

I can't believe I have had this amazing book on my shelf for ages and have only just read it now! I really enjoyed PACIFIC HOPE by BETTE NORDBERG and can highly recommend it. It is an exciting read with a strong Christian message. I am looking forward to reading more novels by this author.
The characters are very real and the way they deal with their difficult circumstances is well portrayed. I love the way that the Lord speaks to Mike and Kate as they cry out to Him! We get the feeling of His closeness to His children in even the worst situations.
The importance of repentance, forgiveness and unconditional love is brought out in this story, and also the importance of marriage. We see how, even though the people closest to us sometimes betray our trust, we can always trust the Lord.
Mike has problems on all sides - from the imminent break up of his marriage, which is his fault, to problems in his business, which he cannot understand. Has he become the victim of someone in the company's sinister plans?
Kate's father's heart attack adds to her problems, but is she using this as an excuse to keep away from Mike? What will it take for her to forgive him? Does she really want to?
Will their trip on the yacht "Second Chance" restore their marriage, or is it wishful thinking on Mike's part?

BLOODY POINT by LINDA WHITE

BLOODY POINT by LINDA WHITE  is an exciting thriller which you won't be able to put down! We are kept guessing right to the end!
Cassie McKenna and Jake Tucker have been partners in the F. B. I., but Cassie hands in her badge and gun, wanting to have nothing to do with her old life because she can't get over the loss of her husband Mike, also an F. B. I. agent and Jake's best friend. It is when Jake is attacked that Cassie wishes she hadn't resigned from her job. She seems to have lost everything - her husband, her partner, her job and her faith in God. She calls in a favour with an old friend of her father's and gets a job as a reporter for the local newspaper in order to be able to use her press pass to ask questions and try and solve the fires at the marina, the murdered boat owner and Jake's attack.
We see this sense of loss too in Jake's life - his wife has divorced him, he misses his children terribly, he's lost his best friend and he is suffering the aftermath of a brutal attack. He comes very close to giving up.
I like the way the author describes the struggles the characters go through when they are trying to make sense of life and are asking the question so many of us ask, namely, "why do bad things often happen to people who are serving God?" The message of restoration runs through the story and also of the importance of trusting God no matter what happens.
The weather and the sea play an important role and form the background to the story - the descriptions of the storms underline the danger that is threatening to destroy Jake and Cassie, and anyone else who gets in the way of the mysterious killer.
I really enjoyed this novel and am looking forward to the sequel, "Battered Justice" which is coming out in June.

THE PHARAOH'S DAUGHTER by MESU ANDREWS

THE PHARAOH'S DAUGHTER by MESU ANDREWS is the beautifully written story of the Egyptian princess who adopted Moses, told against the backdrop of life on the banks of the Nile in ancient Egypt. Although it is a work of fiction, there is no loss of biblical truth and the historical facts of the Bible account are the backbone of the novel.
The author has obviously done a great deal of research into life in Egypt at that time, both the life of the royal court and that of the Hebrew slaves. Whilst the slaves were in bondage to their cruel Egyptian task masters, those of them who served the Hebrew God had a freedom that the Egyptians didn't have, the latter being in bondage to sorcery, the wicked priests and the cruel and ineffective gods they served. The Egyptian religion was one of fear, death and destruction coupled with the futility of trying to please their gods.
Mery, who later became Anippe and then, on her marriage to Sebak, Amira of Avaris, was terrified of childbirth. She was forced to watch her mother give birth when both her mother and baby brother died, which terrified her and led to her deception in pretending that Moses was her child, thus providing her husband with an heir without the risk of dying like her mother did.
It is a story of slavery and freedom, love and hate, opulence and abject poverty, fear and trust, truth and deception, rejection and acceptance and of course the importance of repentance and forgiveness. We also see the importance of facing one's fears.
There are the warring Ramessids of the Delta as opposed to the slaves who try to keep out of trouble. We see the unusual friendship between the mighty Sebak and Mered, the humble linen maker, and Mered's friendship with Amira, who was horrified at the treatment that was meted out to the Hebrew slaves, especially when the order was given to kill the Hebrew baby boys. Mered has faith in El-Shaddai's promises and speaks of this faith to Sebak and Amira, praying for them as well as for his own family and the Hebrew people.
We see Amira's mother's heart in her love for Moses, who she named Mehy, and Miriam, and later on for the Hebrew children she took care of, and for her rebellious sister for whom she felt responsible, although Mered pointed out to her that it wasn't her fault that Ankhe had always been jealous of her. We see how important it is for a person to be loved and how rejection can lead to rebellious behaviour.
The characters are sensitively portrayed and we can relate to their struggles. This novel has a wealth of scriptural truth woven throughout which makes it a very worth while read. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

DOUBLE CROSS by DIANN MILLS

DOUBLE CROSS by DIANN MILLS is a thrilling detective novel with a strong Christian message. Against a background of fraud against elderly Alzheimer's patients, murder and intrigue, we see how officer Daniel Hilton and F.B.I. Agent Laurel Evertson deal with issues of fear, doubt and forgiveness in their own lives, whilst doing all they can to find out who is behind the life insurance scam which has affected Daniel's grandparents and others at the Silver Hospitality seniors' home.
To do this they have to team up with Morton Wilmington, a convicted criminal who Laurel put into prison by living with him under cover as his fiancée, who has been paroled due to his supposed conversion to Christianity. They don't trust him, but they are forced to work closely with him in order to get in with his former partner in crime to find out who is behind this nation wide attack on the elderly.
Daniel is a believer who has been impacted by his godly grandparents, Earl and Abby Hilton, who took him in when his mother abandoned him and his father died. He has to deal with unforgiveness towards his mother.
Laurel's life fell apart when her parents died. She is angry with God for allowing it to happen and also for allowing her partner, Jesse, to be shot when Morton was arrested.
Was Morton's conversion real? Can he be trusted, or is he working against them?
Not only is the novel packed with suspense but it is a really good character study. I love the description of the loving relationship between Daniel's elderly grandparents and Daniel's love and respect for them. I also like the way Laurel treats the elderly with understanding and compassion. It is interesting to see how Morton tries to relate to people in the outside world after spending so long in jail.
Who is behind the scam? Is the double crosser himself being double crossed?
I can highly recommend this novel.

THE VICTORS by JACK CAVANAUGH

THE VICTORS by JACK CAVANAUGH is the seventh book in his American Family Portrait series. This novel is set during the Second World War and in it we see how Jesse and Emily Morgan's son Johnny's family fare at this horrific time in world history. Of the four Morgan children Walt and Alexandra have inherited their father's love of flying whilst Nathanial and Lily are the artistic members of the family. As it does throughout the series, the Morgan family bible plays an important part in the story.
Against the backdrop of war, we see how the characters grow in their walk with the Lord as they are forced by adverse circumstances to decide what really is important in life and to rely on Him as never before. Their struggles are very real and well portrayed.
I like the way the author uses Scripture throughout the novel, showing the importance of knowing the Word of God, especially when one is in impossible situations. In fact we see how Laura comes to trust God when she is at her lowest, even as Job worshipped God when he had lost everything.
We see the individual members of the Morgan family holding true to the Christian values of their heritage,as symbolized by the handing down of the family bible to a member of the next generation who will, in turn, teach his family the truth of God's Word.
Another remarkable aspect of this story is the way that we are shown how all Germans were not pro Hitler, and the human kindness that existed between individuals who showed love to those who others would have seen as their enemy. We see what true Christian love is all about!
This is a novel, based on history, with a strong Christian message, and I recommend it as a most enjoyable and interesting read.

THE LIST by ROBERT WHITLOW

THE LIST by ROBERT WHITLOW is an exciting story of faith, love and redemption in a world raging with greed for money and power.
Josiah Jacobson, a young lawyer, known to everyone as Renny, is launched into a world of deceit and wickedness when he reads the terms of his father's will. He is disappointed and angry at his father, who he couldn't really get close to when he was older, until he hears about the money involved in being heir to his membership of The List.
This unholy inheritance is compared to our eternal inheritance in Jesus Christ, and the prophetic vision that his maternal grandfather passed down to him in a letter - he was to destroy the strongholds of idol worship like the godly King Josiah did in the Bible.
When a member of The List dies, his oldest son takes over the membership in this evil secret society , based on greed, lies and covetousness. In fact, we see clearly how the sins of the fathers are passed down through the generations! An example of this is the way Renny gets migraines like his father did as soon as he signs the oath of membership. Also the members have often died in suspicious circumstances!
Renny goes to his first meeting of The List with Jo Johnstone, whose father named her to make it seem as though she was male in order to not lose his family's membership. There is a great deal of money involved, which is what has lured Renny into joining, but Jo only wants to know more about her father. She is a strong Christian and is uneasy about the whole situation, and is uncomfortable with Renny's obvious love of money. The members of The List are afraid of Jo's Christianity.
Largely due to Jo's, Mama A's and his landlady, Daisy Stokes' prayers, Renny realizes his need for the Lord and makes a commitment to the God they serve. He is impressed by the way they talk to God so easily, like a friend.
When he realizes the evil in which he has become involved, he tries to destroy The List in his own strength and ends up bringing danger to the one he loves.
When he reaches rock bottom, he is led by his Christian lawyer to give over the control of his life to Jesus and to repent of his love of money, so that he can fight the battle in the Spirit against the satanic forces lined up against him.
We see the importance of prayer and fasting and even of laying down one's life for one's friends. We see also that the Lord is the God who answers prayers and is true to His Word. delivering and healing His children.
This novel is rich in Scripture reference, and is a wonderfully exciting story of the fight between good and evil. It leaves us in no doubt that we cannot fight evil in our own strength, and that nothing is impossible to the Lord.
This is a book that I cannot recommend highly enough, for the gripping plot, the very real characters and the spiritual insight of the author.
