Christian Novel Review

Having always been an avid reader, since becoming a Christian I have found a wealth of reading material in Christian bookshops and in various second hand bookshops. I have found that in Christian novels one often finds truths that help in one’s Christian walk. I enjoy reading about how the various characters deal with life, and I also find I am the richer for reading a really good Christian novel. Certain authors, through their books, give you a real insight into their joys and struggles, which I find very interesting. The books which I am going to review are those which I have really enjoyed, and have read at least twice – some books, for example the “Mark of the Lion “ series by Francine Rivers, I have read at least five times each. The first books that I am going to talk about are the latest two novels by Francine Rivers,

RESCUED HEART by ANGELA HUNT

Publication date 7/10/25

RESCUED HEART by ANGELA HUNT is the beautiful story of Abraham and Sarah, with the richness of biblical prophecy and an overwhelming feeling of Father God’s love for and protection of His people, as He personally leads and guides Abraham and Sarah and brings His promises to pass in their lives, against all odds. As He says to a sceptical Sarah in Genesis 18:14, “Is anythimg too hard for the Lord?”…….

Although the author uses some other ancient writings and her imagination, the fictional part of the book adds to the narrative and in no way interferes with the authenticity of God’s Word. I love the way we are given bibllical truth about trust and patience, and the inevitability of biblical ptophecy coming topass, as we share in Abraham and Sarah’s incredible journey through life. May we strive to hear God’s voice as they did and share the truth of the Gospel in these tumultuous days in which we live……
The faith Abraham shows in being willing to sacrifice Isaac in obedience to Adonai is beautifully described in the book, with its parallel in what He did in sending His Son to earth to save us from our sin…….
This book really spoke tome and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers.

A SONG IN THE DARK by KIMBERLEY WOODHOUSE

A SONG IN THE DARK by KIMBERLEY WOODHOUSE  is way up there with some of the best novels I have read! The way the author has given us Chaisley Frappier’s beautiful and courageous story against the background of Hitler’s horrific regime is quite incredible. What really good timing for this book, with the horrors being perpetuated today and anti Semitism stronger than ever  in the world. I pray  that this book will awaken Christians the world over to unashamedly stand by the words of Christ and spread His truth and love abroad……..

The characters are unforgettable, the story is riveting and the Christian message very strong. The musical theme is exceptional.
We see how Chaisley, her grandmother, Rick, Mel and Dr G put their own lives at risk to stand up to Hitler and get as many “undesirables” as they can to safety. The fact that the Nazis could turn on Chaisley for her blindness is a very real danger.
I do not want to tell you any more and spoil the read for you.
I cannot recommend this beautiful and inspirational read highly enough.

THE LUMBER BARON’S WIFE by LYNN AUSTIN

Publication date 14/4/26

In THE LUMBER BARON’S WIFE LYNN AUSTIN has given us an interesting and inspirational story of three women, Hannah Webster, wife of Dr John Webster, and Kate Abernathy, trophy wife of Henry the lumber baron, in the late 19th century, and Ashley Gilbert, an avid historian, whose husband David is a conservationist, in present time, who have all moved to a timber town on Lake Michigan. Not only is the novel rich in history, but the lives of these three very different women meld together to give us a wonderful story of bravery, redemption, friendship, marriage and forgiveness, as their emotions are revealed to us. Each of the women have life changing decisions to make………

As is the case with all of this author’s novels, the Christian message is beautifully explained and forms an integral part of the story.
The two timelines run into each other seamlessly as the truth about Kate Abernathy’s disappearance is revealed.
I cannot recommend this beautiful book strongly enough.

WITNESS PROTECTION by ROBERT WHITLOW is an exciting and highly inspirational legal thriller with a strong Christian message against a backdrop of drug related criminal activity.

Jon Tremaine, a former member of the Los Reyes cartel, has been in witness protection for nearly twenty years ad lives with his pregnant wife Sarah in Brunswick Georgia on a tree plantation that he manages. When his employee, Cesar Mendes, is taken into custody on trumped up drug charges, he puts Sarah and himself in danger by standing with him. Has his past come back to torment him once more?………

HANDLE WITH CARE by MARYBETH WHALEN is a brilliantly laid out and highly inspirational story about hope and hostages, marriage, family relationships and deeply hidden secrets. NOT WHAT WE PICTURED by BECCA KINZER

NOT WHAT WE PICTURED by BECCA KINZER is a sweet and extremely funny romance novel with an amusig mix of unusual characters and a strong sense of the importance of every human being and God’s love and Fatherhood……..

McKenna Boston is an enthusiastic redhead who feels responsible for her younger sister Bobbi, and  has more or less put her life on hold until Bobbi’s boyfriend Oliver makes a commitment to marry her. McKenna has always felt unworthy having been in foster care until Mamma J, Bobbi’s mother, adopted her……..
Nate Lambert feels abandoned by his father and struggles with unfoegiveness. ……
Add to this the goings on with the unusual group of friends at The Happy Hiccup Bed and Breakfast, interminable comittee meetings and an assortment of goats and chickens, and you have the perfect setting for romance and confusion!……..
I highly recomend this delightful read which is certainly full of surprises and laugh out loud humour.

WHEN JUSTICE COMES by COLLEEN COBLE and RICK ACKER

 Publication date 3/3/26

WHEN JUSTICE COMES is the final book in the Tupelo Grove Novels by COLLEEN COBLE and RICK ACKER, and it finishes off the series with a thrilling roller coaster ride as everything comes to a head, and the criminals are finally exposed.

While Hez and Savannah prepare for their upcoming wedding, they find themselves in the enemy’s crosshairs once again as they try unsuccessfully to adopt Savannah’s ten year old nephew Simon. ……
There is murder, kidnapping, lying, betrayal and blackmail, contrasted with romance, the support of friends, unconditional love and a good message on the importance of prayer.
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I highly recommend this enjoyable and exciting read to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

A MOMENT TO LOVE by TRACIE PETERSON

Publication date 21/10/25

A MOMENT TO LOVE is the third novel in the Hope of Cheyenne series by TRACIE PETERSON. Although the novel can stand alone I suggest that you read the novels in sequence if you possibly can.

The beginning of the book gives us insight into what has gone before, and the unusual situation Carrie is in with the only mother she has ever known being her sister, which has led her to feel that her parents cannot possibly love her as much as their “real” children, although they have always treated her with love.

The story starts in Chicago in 1890 with Dr Carrie Vogel breaking her engagement to her fellow researcher Dr Oswald Nelson, because of his theft of her research on the human brain, publishing it in his own name. She decides to go home to Cheyenne to her family……

Pinkerton agent, Spencer Duval, after witnessing his beloved father being shot by bounty jumper Eugene Astor when he was ten years old, has made it his life’s work to find the man and make him pay for what he did. On hearing that the man he has been searching for for so many years is in Cheyenne, he and Carrie, being very good friends, come up with a plan which will change their lives forever……

This is a beautifully written story about faith in God, relationships, family dynamics and truth versus deception. Both Carrie and Spencer have a desire to walk in truth, which comes from their Christian upbringing and personal faith in God. I love the very appropriate Scriptures used by the author to show how the Lord is working in her characters’ hearts……..
I cannot recommend this wonderful novel highly enough.

THE RED COTTAGE by HANNAH LINDER

 Publication date 1/11/25

THE RED COTTAGE by HANNAH LINDER is a beautifully written, emotional roller coaster of a romance novel, with a strong Christian message of redemption, full of mystery and suspense. The story takes place in Juleshead Village in north Cornwall in 1818. The characters and their feelings are wonderfully portrayed, and we are kept guessing as to who the villain is and where the truth lies until the very end.
Orphaned Meg Foxcroft lives with her uncle who has the apothercary shop in the village, helping him see to the sick. She and the rugged Scottish fisherman, Tom McGwen have been  in love since they were young. They are adventurous and full of fun and they hope to get married when her uncle allows it. Everything changes when tragedy hits and Meg loses her memory …….
Tom’s indefatigable efforts to reawaken her memory and her love for him, his kindness towards her and his young sister, and his protection of those he loves really touched my heart. Meg has childlike faith in God, whilst Tom is angry with Him…..
I am not telling you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I cannot recommend this heartwarming novel highly enough.

ALL THAT LIES BENEATH by D L WOOD

ALL THAT LIES BENEATH by D L WOOD is a nailbiting romantic thriller that will keep you guessing until the last page. This is the first novel in a new series which promises to be very good. I am looking forward to novel number two already!
Sophie Walsh P I, working with the Mitchell County sheriff’s department, has just helped put away the ruthless serial killer, Kurt Fogerty, for the murder of three young women, when a fourth murdered women is unearthed. Can this murder be attributed to Fogerty or is there another killer out there?…..
Sophie, who was widowed after five happy years of marriage, is now engaged to the handsome, charismatic and wealthy James Calder, and his family is now her family, together with grandmotherly Grace Dean and her lively nine year old grandson Jake. She lives alone with Bilbo, her faithful and well trained Pit Bull.
Sophie has a strong relationship with the Lord and makes a point of remembering to keep in touch with her friends, despite her busy and dangerous lifestyle. She is dedicated to her job and always remembers her grandfather’s wise advice to “ Follow the facts to the truth, and the truth to the end.”……
This is a story about family dynamics, drug addiction and trafficking, loose living and the lengths to which people will go to hide the truth.
I cannot recommend this excellent read highly enough.

A WEEKEND ON ALLYSON ISLAND by SUSANNAH B LEWIS

Publication date 9/12/25
A WEEKEND ON ALLYSON ISLAND by SUSANNAH B LEWIS is the poignant story of five friends who get together to celebrate the wealthy widow, Moira’s, fiftieth birthday. To me it is a picture of true friendship and Christian fellowship, once each woman’s struggles come to light.
I cannot recommend this beautifully written and inspirational novel highly enough¡

TIME FOR COURAGE by ROB CURRIE

Publication date 6/1/26
TIME FOR COURAGE by ROB CURRIE tells an exciting story of the courage of teenagers who are part of the Dutch resistance during the second world war, helping save Jewish children from the Nazi war machine. It is a beautifully written novel that is just as suitable for adults as it is for children, full of adventure, courage and quick thinking. I particularly like the way the Ingelse children demonstrate the faith and prayer life their parents have taught them, and the scriptures that give them courage.
I cannot recommend this exciting and inspirational read strongly enough.

THE DAUGHTER OF SHILOH by TERRI J HAYNES

Publication date 15/10/25
THE DAUGHTER OF SHILOH by TERRI J HAYNES is a well written historical romance novel which takes place in Birmingham in 1902, where two Tuskagee institute students, Lealie Bevard and Milton Rafferty, are injured, one physically and the other psychologically, during the stampede at the Shiloh Baptist church convention on the 19th September……..
This tragedy threatens to change the direction of Lealie’s life, but also shows the gossips of Shiloh Baptist church the depth  of Milton’s character, as the two of them use their nursing and administrative skills in the aftermath of the disaster…….
The two young students face danger as they look into stolen funds and even become involved in a murder investigation……..
There are some serious themes in the novel such as family dynamics, the question of Negro education and whether it should take a more technical or classical route, and the slow movement of integration between white and black…….
The book has a great Christian message, largely based on Psalm 23.
I cannot recommend this inspirational read strongly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

SOUTH OF SOMEWHERE by T I LOWE

Publication date 10/3/26
SOUTH OF SOMEWHERE by T I LOWE is a beautifully written novel in which the authot deals sensitively with some difficult subjects, such as alcohol and drug addiction and family dynamics. The story will keep you riveted as you follow Junie Wilder in her journey to stay sober and show her brother Cy that she is capable of looking after her little daughter Fern. ……
On being released from rehab she goes tol live in the house in Sullivan’s Island where memories of her grandma Olla abound. She is desperately lonely and feels guilty for her bad behaviour, but, between her fatherly probation officer, handsome and kind neighnour Henry, Betty from her Methodist AA meeting, her friends from the Magnolia Nephilist Society, and Winston her canine friend, Junie gradually learns to foegive herself. ……
There is a strong Christian message, and  I like to see her relationship with God growing, as well as her desire to make things right with her brother…….
This is a story about second chances, redemption, determination, and the courage of a mother, who herself was neglected by her parents, striving to make up for her mistakes and become the best mother she can be for her daughter.
I cannot recommend this lovely read strongly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Tyndale House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely mu own.

A MISSION WITHOUT BORDERS by CHAD ROBICHAUD

Publication date 13/8/25
A MISSION WITHOUT BORDERS by CHAD ROBICHAUD  is a powerful story of faith, courage and sacrifice as we hear from the author, a former recon Marine, how he and his team go in to war torn Ukraine to help those who are suffering at the hands of the Russians. We see the truth about the brutal way they attack civilians and destroy the homes and the infrastructure of towns, leaving desolation and death behind them, and also evidence of chemical warfare……
As Chad says, “Nothing makes me so enraged as when I see innocent people, especially children, terrorized by evil men,” and, “how far away does someone have to be before we lose our compassion to help them?” He also says, “If we let politics get in the way of our compassion for people in need, then we should probably change our politics,” and, “there is never a wrong time to do the right thing………All it takes, is all you got.”
I like Chad’s honesty as he speaks of his own battle with PTSD, even as the founder and CEO of the Mighty Oaks Foundation, a non profit organization where thousands of veterans are helped throughout the world. He speaks about his battle with letting go of his worry for his son Hunter who joins him in the Ukraine, and for his family in general, learning to trust Gos with them.
I like to see how he and his colleagues pray together and minister to those on the battlefield, and support Ukrainian pastors and chaplains. Of his ministry to the suffering people in the land he says, “Mostly I prayed that they would know that God loved them and that He was going to be with them every step of the way - especially in the middle of so much hardship.” We also see how his own faith in God grows…….
I cannot recommend this excellent book highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Nelson Books. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

SPLENDOR OF THE LAND by CONNILYN COSETTE

Publication date 5/8/25
SPLENDOR OF THE LAND is the third novel in the King’s Men series by CONNILYN COSETTE. It is one of the most beauriful books I have read in a long time! It really spoke to me as all of this author’s books have done. There is biblical truth, emotional depth, suspense, adventure, betrayal, sacrificial love, bravery, and romance, all against the backdrop of the first book of Samuel chapter fifteen and verse six, where Saul warns the Kenites to leave their homes and lands as he is about to come against the Amelekites who are living among them. This decree, to destroy the Amelekites,  has come from Yahweh through the prophet Samuel, to finish what the Israelites had been told to do when they came into the Promised Land so many years before.
Gavriel, a soldier under Yonatan in King Saul’s army, has finally caused his commader to discipline him harshly for his drunken and reckless behaviour by sending him away to help Emmet, a captain who despises him, to help move the Kenites to safety. It is there that he meets his “little dove” Zahava,, and his life will never be the same!…….
The beautiful, although crippled, Zahava, is a brillian maker of red gold jewellery. Her father, Barzel, has taught her secrets handed down by their Kenite ancestors, because he is losing his sight. Her father is a godly man whi, with her mother, follows Yahweh closely. He is particularly protective of his family, especially his damaged middle daughter. Zahava’s mother tells her here how she got her name: “ “You father named you not for the gold that men pull out of the ground by the sweat of their brows, Zahava, ……but for that golden star shining like a beacon - like a blessing from on high - throughout the long hours he waited outside the tent, listening for your first cry.” “  Zahava says “ From my earliest memories my mother had sung a song about how the Creator had fashioned me with elements far stronger and more precious than pure gold,  just as he’d made that beautiful star with no more than a word from his mouth.”
Forging, blacksmithing and goldsmithing form an integral part of the story, and we are reminded of God, our Creator, who is forever refining us into His own image.
This novel really makes the Bible come alive and gives us so much background history to that single verse. I cannot recommend Splendor of the Land highly ebough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

DESIGNED WITH LOVE by TRACIE PETERSON

Publication date 1/7/25
DESIGNED WITH LOVE is the second novel in the Hope of Cheyenne series by TRACIE PETERSON, but it can easily stand alone. It is a beautifully told story of the redemptive power of God’s love, with two lovely romances and wonderful characters, as well as some intrigue……
The tragedy that occurs at Emma Johnson’s wedding to Tommy Benton changes her from a rather shallow, fun-seeking, young woman, into a seeker of the truth. When she returns to Cheyenne with Tommy’s brother Colton and his sister Rosie, she has a strong desire to make amends for her rebellious youth…….
I love the way the godly people in Cheyenne, together with Emma’s new faith and his sister’s childlike trust in the Lord draw Colton, the dedicated businessman, to seek the truth for himself.
I cannot recommend this most enjoyable and inspirational novel strongly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

THE UNDERCOVER HEIRESS OF BROCKTON by KELLY J GOSHORN

Publication date 1/8/25
THE UNDERCOVER HEIRESS OF BROCKTON by KELLY J GOSHORN is the heartwarming story of two people of different social status joining together to help those affected by the horrific fire at the Grover Shoe Company in Brockton.in 1905. When firefighter Leo Erikson dances with heiress Henrietta Maxwell at the annual firefighters’ ball, although sparks fly, neither of them know what good friends they will become or just how much they have in common with their desire to help those in need as well as a shared faith in God. When Etta literally drops out of a tree on top of Leo, dressed in men’s clothing, with a skewed false eyebrow, he realizes that she is also a reporter for rhe Enterprise called Henry Mason ………
I love their sweet relationship, the ragging and support Leo gets from his firefighter father and brothers, and Etta’s determination to succeed in a man’s world.
There is heartache and betrayal, and of course the unavoidable hint of scandal…….
This is an emotional story told against the backdrop of heartbreaking loss.
I highly recommend the novel as a most enjoyable and inspirational read.

EDGE OF TRUTH by JANICE CANTORE

Publication date 17/2/26
EDGE OF TRUTH by JANICE CANTORE is an exciting thriller with great characters and a strong Christian message of redemption and forgiveness running through it. Not only the forgiveness of others but of one’s salf as well! This is a well written story which will grip you until the last page.
Lainie Jensen, a detective in Long Beach, and F.B.I. agent Ben Isaacs  are working a case together, trying to put Dallas Vine away for good. He has evaded justice too many times, and when both Lainie’s sister Evie and Ben’s partner and best friend go missing, the stakes are even higher. When Evie’s husband Stan comes under suspicion, things become really interesting…..
I cannot recommend Edge of Truth highly enough.

PROWL COLLEEN COBLE

Publication date 4/11/25
PROWL is the second novel in the Sanctuary series  by COLLEEN COBLE, and another exciting story that takes place at the Lawson’s Sanctuary Wildlife Preserve in Nova Cambridge, Alabama. We come across many of the characters from the first book, including Paradise Alden, her soon to be fiance  Blake Lawson, his mother Jenna and younger brothers, Isaac and Levi, who are all desperate to save the preserve and all the animals against vicious threats and even murder, which are causing financial problems from bad online reviews. Somehow Paradise’s unfortunate childhood, largely spent in foster care after her parents’ murder when she was eight, is involved, as she is being threatened as well…….
The descriptions of the setting and the animals are really lovely, and there is also a sweet romance. I particularly like the strong Christian message of trusting God running through the story. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I do not want to tell you any more for fear of spoiling your read.
I cannot recommend this gripping and inspirational novel highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

OF SILVER AND SECRETS by MICHELLE GRIEP

Publication date 3/6/25
OF SILVER AND SECRETS is the second novel in the Time’s Lost Treasures series by MICHELLE GRIEP, but it can easily stand alone. The book has all you need for a most enjoyable read - delightful characters, a sweet romance,  a couple of villains, treasure, superstition, a possible curse and a lovely message of hope in God and His wonderful mercy, all in the setting of an archeological dig at Inman Manor in Royston.
It is 1889 and Eva Inman has been left to cope with a crumbling manor house and her blind sister, Penny, with no money to pay her taxes. She also carries a heavy load of guilt…..
Bram Webb, a childhood friend, with his uncle Pemberton, are professors of history at Trinity College, Cambridge. Bram is determined to unearth a Caelum Academia, the proof of a Christian hideout during the time of Roman persecution, in order to save his beloved, brilliant and forgetful uncle’s reputation……
With Bram’s return to Royston to work on the dig on her land, not only artifacts are brought to the surface!
I don’t want to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I cannot recommend this truly lovely book strongly enough.

THE HIGHLAND HEIST by PEPPER BASHAM

Publication date 1/7/25
THE HIGHLAND HEIST is the third novel in the Grace and Frederick romantic suspense series by PEPPER BASHAM, but it can easily stand alone. I loved all three novels and this is definitely no exception - what a delightful read with interesting characters, humour, witty dialogue, and of course the adventures, complete with villains and even the odd ghost, that seem to follow Grace around, testing her sleuthing skills!
Grace and Frederick are still on honeymoon. The book opens with “ Perfect husbands were rare, except perhaps in fiction, but Grace Percy, Countess of Asrley, had married the equivalent, of this she was certain”, and carries on further with Grace reflecting that “married life certainly kept proving to be wonderfully exciting.” I love her sweet innocence and passion for life and the inagination and inspiration that comes from immersing herself in fiction. She and Freddie are unexpectedly well suited and adore each ther…..
Freddie decides to take Grace back to Harrington in the States to see her father and her sister Lillias, only to find her father bankrupt, their family home sold, and Lillias a suspect in her husband’s murder. Grace is determined to prove her sister’s innocence, and we see her kindness towards the  rude and jealous Lillias coming out strongly……..
The story is largely based on the importance of trusting in the Lord in all situations. This is an altogether lovely book and one I highly recommend.
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling your read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbur Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

THE FAULT BETWEEN US by STEPHANIE LANDSEM

Publication date 4/12/25
THE FAULT BETWEEN US by STEPHANIE LANDSEM is set at the Yellowstone National Park in 1959 at the time of the Helgen Lake earthquake and tells the story of the three Reilly sisters and their bravery as they fight to save each other and other victims of the disaster.  In fact the flood is a turning point in their lives, changing their attitudes towards one another and life in general. There is much prayer and repentance in the face of the horrific situation they find themselves in. The Christian message is strong, based largely on Psalm 46 verses 2 to 4 and verse 8, about God’s might and His protection. It is a story of forgiveness, trust, hope, redemption, family dynamics and second chances.
In the descriptions we are made aware of the magnitude of God’s creation.
This is a beautifully written book with a powerful message, and one I highly recommend.

VANISHED by DR DAVID JEREMIAH

Publication date 1/7/25
VANISHED by DR DAVID JEREMIAH is a novel written by a well known Bible scholar, an expert in last days prophecy and Biblical truth, and is totally based on the Word of God. It is a wake up call as we see how the lawlessness described in the book lines up with that of today. The characters and their emotions are very well portrayed.
Major General John Haggerty of the United States army is the commander of the Potential Pandemis Task Force. There is a new type of corona virus in Europe and he is trying unsuccessfully to halt its progress. He takes his job very seriously.  He is  a man who is doing his best, in his own strength, to make life better for everyone. It is almost as though he is trying to make up for the way he failed his family. His executive officer and best friend,  Caleb Johnson, is a committed Christian who lives his faith and is trying to get through to his troubled friend ……..
The story is about the choices we make, family dynamics and the battle between good and evil.
I cannot recommend this wonderful book strongly enough.
I was given a free vopy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this rebiew are completely my own.

LOVE AND ORDER by JENNIFER UHLARIK

LOVE AND ORDER is a very apt name for the most enjoyable and exciting novel by JENNIFER UHLARIK. What a great story and what interesting characters! The scene is set in Cambria Springs in 1873 where Calliope Braddock, an under cover Pinkerton agent going by the name Kezia Jarrett , and her partner Joe Trenamen, whose under cover name is Stephen Nesbitt, are looking for a killer responsible for the murder of seven women countrywide, the latest two murders taking place in Cambria Springs. Callie is also looking for her older brother and sister from whom she was separated fifteen years ago on an orphan train…….
There is murder, kidnapping, more than one courtroom scene, a suspicious sheriff, a medicine show and more than one romance. We also see how the main characters come to rely on the Lord for His guidance and protection……
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling your read.
I cannot recommend this lovely book strongly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

FROM THE VALLEY WE RISE by ELIZABETH MUSSER

Publication date -3/6/25
FROM THE VALLEY WE RISE is the third novel I have read by ELIZABETH MUSSER, and I definitely will not miss any of her books in the future!  She has a beautiful way of writing, strongly based on her Christian faith and her love and understanding of God’s chosen people, the Jews. Reading  of the young Jewish gitl Delphine’s trust in God as she encourages her friend Rene by singing the Jewish Songs of Ascent, really touched my heart.
The story takes place in 1944 at the time of Operation Dragoon in Provence against the backdrop of the German occupation, antisemitic horror, and betrayal…..
The characters are unforgettable, from Monsieur Martin who runs  the Martin network saving Jewish children from the Gestapo, his army chaplain son Peter who prays for his men, seeing to their physical as well as spiritual needs, to the beautiful and caring Isabelle and the other brave members of the French Resistance, to name but a few……
There are strong themes of rebuilding what is broken, as we see the destruction of Sisteron by friendly fire, and the rebuilding of the Camp Between the Hills, according to Isaiah 61:4 “And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations.” There is also the rebuilding of broken people and relationships, with God as well as with one another, with forgiveness and God’s grace providing the key. Another very apt scripture used by Peter with the fearful soldiers is “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1. As Isabelle’s father used to say “courage is not the lack of fear, courage is fear that has said its prayers.”…….
There is so much I could say about this exceptional and inspirational book but I will not tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are compleely my own.

THE WOMEN OF OAK RIDGE by MICHELLE SHOCKLEE

Publication date 9/9/25
THE WOMEN OF OAK RIDGE by MICHELLE SHOCKLEE is the sensitively written account of a young woman, Maebelle Willett, who goes to Oak Ridge Tennessee in 1944 to work for the secret war effort named the Manhatton Project, which was apparently going to end the war.
Her niece, Laurel, who has chosen to write her thesis on the psychological effects of helping in the production of the atomic bomb, comes to stay with her Aunt Mae in 1979 hoping to gain information for her thesis. Although they get on well Laurel cannot understand why her aunt is reticent, even fearful, of sharing her experiences……
The two timelines, 1944 and 1979, blend well in telling an amazing story of friendship, love, duty, hard work, corruption, fear and blackmail.
The characters are very real and their emotions are strongly portrayed.
The book is enfolded in a strong Christian message based on John 8:36 “If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
I cannot recommend this lovely, interesting and inspirational novel highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Tyndale House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

AN UNEXPECTED GRACE by TRACIE PETERSON and KIMBERLEY WOODHOUSE

Publication date 20/5/24
AN UNEXPECTED GRACE is the third novel in The Jewels of Kalispell series by TRACIE PETERSON and KIMBERLEY WOODHOUSE, but it can easily stand alone. It is a beautifully written book, with unforgettable characters and a strong Christian message on which it is based.
Both Johanna Easton St John and Parker Bennett are eager to follow the Lord’s leading in their lives, using their God- given ralents to His glory……
When Parker comes back to Kalispell in 1905 with the Franklin Travelling Theatre Group, a famous actor who has not only lost Johanna, his first love, but also seems to have lost  his first lost love for His Lord and Saviour, he has many things to put right in his life. First of all with his mother and sister, Cora, after not being home when his beloved father died, and then to see how he can help the widowed Johanna who is battling with a toddler and sick father. It also seems as though their little family’s lives are in danger……..
I love the way the authors take us right into their characters’ emotions…….
There are a couple of villains and many twists and turns in the story with the suspense making things very excitng. There are also some lovely characters such as matchmaking Marvella and three year old Emily St John ……
I cannot recommend this most enjoyable and inspirational book highly enough.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

THE STORIES WE CARRY by ROBIN W PEARSON

Publication date 7/10/25
THE STORIES WE CARRY by ROBIN W PEARSON takes place in  Glory Pryor ‘s precious bookstore, By the Book, in the small town of Gilmore. The story
is full of mystery and secrets buried in the hearts of characters, whose interactions uncover lies and hurts, hatred and jealousy. I like the discussions about quotations, which can turn quite ugly, and the underlying Scriptures that often come up in the most secular of novels. I love five year old Bennett who seems wise beyond his years and who often shows more grace than his mother……
This is a really lovely book which I cannot reommend highly enough for the great story, unforgettable characters and strong Christian message of forgiveness, family, unconditional love and redemption.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Tyndale House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

 Publication date 15/7/25

NO STONE UNTURNED by JENELLE HOVDE is a most enjoyable Regency novel which takes place in the small village of Bramnor in Sussex in 1811. The characters are interesting, and the story is full of twists and turns as Bridget Littleton, the pastor’s daughter who has a passion for antiquities, starts digging with her best friend Abigail Perry in Mr Perry’s field where the farmer has unearthed part of an ancient mosaic. This find could make Bridget famous and save Mr Perry’s farm.
There is a dispute about the boundary line. The new viscount of Hawthorn Abbey, Captain Rafe Hawthorn, has been led to believe that the dig is encroaching on his land. He is
desperate to make a success of the property he inherited from his estranged uncle before losing it, and Bridget is desperate to win a prize for her discovery in order to try and find her brother who is missing after being seconded into the navy……
After a poor start, Bridget and Rafe start working together to overcome one disaster after another…….
There is superstition, competition, betrayal and theft, as well as ugly rumours about the Hawthorn family, and criticism of Bridget’s unladylike behaviour.
The Christian message is strong and I like the way the author uses Scripture references, particularly out of Ecclestiastes, to show that man can do nothing of any worth without the Lord. We see how even the worst sinners can change when they turn to God. We also see how, even in pagan Roman ruins, there is some indication that a Christian was there.
I cannot recommend this exciting and inspirational read strongly enough.
I was given an ARC of the book by NetGalley from Tyndale House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own,

CANYON OF DECEIT by DIANN MILLS

Publication date 9/9/25
CANYON OF DECEIT by DIANN MILLS is a thrilling romantic suspense novel with unforgettable characters and a strong Christian message of the power of prayer and the trustworthiness of Father God.
Therese Palmer and Blane Garcner’s specialist skills complement one another as they go into the Guadalupe Mountains to find eight year old Alina Rurik who has been kidnapped by ruthless men. The Russian mob is involved and the hunt becomes more and more dangerous, especially as Therese and Blane and Blane’s superior officer in the Texas Rangers, feel that they have not been told the full truth. Time is running out, and how many more people will die before the truth is revealed?!…….
As they work together, Therese and Blane open up to one another about their past lives. Here we see their need to forgive themselves, and even, especially in Blane’s case, to forgive God…..
I cannot recommend this exciting and inspirational read highly enough.

WHAT THE RIVER KEEPS by CHERYL GREY BOSTROM

Publication date 12/8/25
WHAT THE RIVER KEEPS by CHERYL GREY BOSTROM is a beautifully written novel, with an interesting story, unforgettable character analysis, and strong metaphors. As the Elwha River is set free from the two dams that hold it in check, will Hildy Nybo be set free as things are uncovered that explain her unusual childhood, which has caused her to doubt her sanity? Her father understood her - they were always close. They shared a love of fish, nature, and carpentry. He believed in her and his unexplained disappearance has affected her badly…….
Hildy is a highly educated biologist, passionate about wild fish which the demolition of the dams will set free to breed and repopulate the river. She returns to her family home to  oversee a group of scientists who are working on this project.
Luke, Miranda Rimmer’s brother, is a carpenter who really “gets” Hildy. They grow close as she helps him do some work for his sister. Luke has also experienced tragedy. Will her secrets be safe with him, or will they chase him away?………
I cannot recommend this lovely read strongly enough, especially for the strong Christian message of loght in the darkness, forgiveness, deliverance  and redemption.

THE ANGEL OF SECOND STREET by BARBARA TIFFT BLAKEY

Publication date 1/5/25
THE ANGEL OF SECOND STREET by BARBARA TIFFT BLAKEY is the beautiful story of  Ida Dempsey and Blaine Prestcott who fall in love, both wanting to share their faith and live their lives to honour God……
It is 1884 in Eureka, California, and Ida’s first attempts to minister to the Chinese and the prostitutes in Second Street are disappointing. I like to see the gentle way Blaine supports her efforts…..
Blaine’s parents do everything they can to separate them, and we see how he tries to honour his parents without allowing them to control his life.
Ida also tries to honour her beloved aunt and uncle, whilst going ahead with her plans to share Jesus with the less fortunate.
There are many twists and turns, but through it all their love for the Lord and dependence upon Him shine through.
I cannot recommend this wonderful, heart warming and truly inspirational, read strongly enough. I see it is the first novel in the Enduring Hope series and I am looking forward to the next one.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

DISCIPLE WALKING WITH GOD by RORISANG THANDEKISO

In DISCIPLE WALKING WITH GOD, RORISANG THANDEKISO speaks to us about her walk with the Lord which started at her mother’s knee, and which has impacted and is still impacting every area of her life. It is good to see how her relationship with Jesus has never taken second place and she uses her position in TV and radio to share what it means to follow the Lord through the many challenges that life presents. She bases her book and her life on 1 Timothy 4 verse 12 and is bold in her faith and honest in her emotions.
She is a “doer of the word” (James 1:22) and opens her heart to those in need…….
This is a lovely book and one I highly recommend.

A CONSTANT LOVE by TRACIE PETERSON

Publication date 4/3/25
A CONSTANT LOVE by TRACIE PETERSON takes place in 1887, outside Cheyenne in the newly developing west, where a devastating winter is destroying both man and beast. Lucille Aldrich’s husband and son have been missing and Wayman Hamilton and his son Micah find them frozen to death. In order to cover up the circumstances of Wayman’s death and help Micah in his grief, Lucille and Charlotte Aldrich come up with a plan. …..
After a year Micah is coming out of isolation and starting to live again with the loving help of these two special ladies, when Lewis Bradley, who is after Charlotte’s money, makes a nuisance of hinself…….
I love the description of ranch life, the affection and help of neighbours, and the way the author uses Scriptures throughout to give answers to the characters’  feelings of guilt and fear. We are reminded of the importance of walking in faith, truth and forgiveness…….
There are two sweet love stories and a great Christian message in an exciting and enjoyable read.
I am not goiug to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I cannot recommend this lovely book strongly enough.

WHAT THE SILENT SAY by EMERSON FORD

Publication date 29/1/25
WHAT THE SILENT SAY by EMERSON FORD is a WW11 story with a dfference. The author has done a great deal of research into the history of the 77th Division’s exploits in the Philippines and their incredible bravery especially at Okinawa. It is based on a true story with some fictional additions which keep the narratve flowing. I could not put the book down and highly recommend this inspirational read. The characters and their emotions are brought to life as we see them responding, not only to the horrors of war, but also to the fear and loneliness of those who are left behind to cope with life.
Raymond’s selflessness really struck me, together with his strong faith in God. It is good to see a man who lives his Christianity.  His love for his younger brother Jimmie, his mother, his wife Evelyn and baby daughter, comes through strongly as does his commitment to his men. I like the way he takes the tough boy from the Bronx, Mitt, under his wing and makes a soldier out of him……..
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling this lovely read for you.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Storm Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

WHEN THE SKY BURNED by LIZ TOLSMA

Publication date 1/3/25
WHEN THE SKY BURNED by LIZ TOLSMA is the sixth book in the A Day to Remember series and tells the story of the fire that destroyed the little town of Peshtigo on the eighth October 1871, shortly before the Great Fire in Chicago. As the author makes us feel the characters’ shock, pain and and heartache and their struggle to reconcile the total desruction of their homes and businesses and the loss of family members, we feel it too. Some like artist, Mariah Randolf, who is blinded in the fire and loses her parents and best friend, find it hard to trust a Heavenly Father who would allow such a thing to happen. Some people even wonder if the town and its inhabitants are being judged …….
There definitely is wickedness being perpetrated in the saloons, and Jay Franklin, the bookkeeper at the Stanford sawmill and woodenware company finds discrepency in the books. What he does with his suspicions puts his own life in danger and changes others’ lives……..
I like the strong message of the faithfulness and all encompassing presence of God even in the midst of horrific tragedy.
That is all I am going to tell you for fear of spoiling your read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Barbour Publishing. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

LAST LIGHT OVER GALVESTON by JENNIFER L WRIGHT

Publication dat 12/8/25
LAST LIGHT OVER GALVESTON by JENNIFER L WRIGHT is a very well written novel in which the author describes, not only the characters and their emotions and the setting in Galveston, but also the hurricane, which takes on a hideous character of its own……
Kathleen McDaniel, a privileged young woman, comes back to her father at McDaniel Manor in New York, after two years at finishing school in Switzerland, a changed person due to her friendship with three European women, Louisa, Marguerite and Hazel, who have ispired her to think for herself and live purposefully, making a mark in the world. This does not go down well with her father or the society to which she has returned.
Something terrible happens and she escapes to Galveston to a Catholic orphanage where she calls herself Annie Odell, always looking over her shoulder to see if her father has sent someone to find her. She is living a lie but the friendships she makes there and her experiences in the storm gradually change her…….
Matthew Richter works under Joseph Kline at the Galveston office of the US Weather Bureau and believes implicitly in his boss and their scientific calculations that prove that a hurricane will never reach Galveston. Matthew is a good friend to Annie, as are Emily and Maggie, but she is afraid of being honest with them…..
It is a sad story of devastation, but there is definitely hope and a strong message of the Fatherhood of God.
I highly recommend this wonderful read.

THE LAWYER AND THE LAUNDRESS by CHRISTINE HILL SUNTZ

Publication date 10/6/25
THE LAWYER AND THE LAUNDRESS by CHRISTINE HILL SUNTZ is a beautifully written historical romance novel with unforgettable characters and an exciting and suspenseful story which takes place in Toronto in 1837. There is also a strong Christian message of hope in a Heavenly Father who is always with us, especaly in difficult times. As Granny, the healer and midwife of Irish Town says to Sara,, who has suffered so much in her life, “God isn’t only a God of blessings  He’s the Man of Sorrows, too, ye ken.  He knows how it feels”, and “There’s a time to mourn and a time to rejoice, says so right in the Scriptures. Mayhap your time of mourning is done. Might be time to live again.” …..
There are rumours of rebellion against England and the Tories, thereis betrayal, abject poverty and excess. Sara O’Connor, the laundress at the Cooper Inn, has never been able to keep her mouth shut, and when she sees how the delightful Evie Kinney is treated by the Cooper girls and their governess, she speaks out and loses her job. She is not Evie’s only friend at the Cooper Inn, there is also the loyal and friendly stable  hand, Henry……

Of course there is a villain who puts them all in danger!……
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I cannot recommend this enjoyable and inspirational read highly enough.

GOD’S FINAL CALL by MICHAEL YOUSSEF

Publication date 18/3/25
GOD’S FINAL CALL by MICHAEL YOUSSEF is the best teaching on the second and third chapters of Revelation that I have either heard or read! The author gives us historical and geographical background on the seven churches, which helps us clearly understand each situation, and he encourages us to take Christ’s message to heart, both for our own Christian walk and the Church today.
This book really spoke to me and I cannot recommend this inspirational read, full of the truth of God’s Word, highly enough.
I was given an ARC of the book by NetGalley from Tyndale House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
